Statement from Congressman Johnny Olszewski on the Urgent Need for Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

“As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, the images of widespread suffering—especially among innocent civilians and children—are heartbreaking and demand urgent action.

I remain steadfast in my support for Israel’s right to defend itself and its people from acts of terror, including the brutal attacks by Hamas. At the same time, we must not turn a blind eye to the dire humanitarian conditions faced by innocent Palestinians caught in the crossfire. A just and secure future for both Israelis and Palestinians requires us to uphold our shared values of compassion, human dignity, and international responsibility.

That is why I join my colleagues in urging all parties to do more to ensure immediate and sustained humanitarian aid reaches those who desperately need it in Gaza, while minimizing the diversion of aid. We must accelerate access to food, water, medical supplies, and other essentials, while continuing to work toward a durable ceasefire and the safe return of all hostages. Israel’s actions this weekend to increase humanitarian deliveries in Gaza are a welcome step but must be sustained.

American leadership must remain committed to peace, security, and the protection of innocent life—no matter where it’s threatened.”
