Hoyer, Maryland Democrats seek clarity on Trump administration pausing infrastructure funding

January 28, 2025
House Democrats are requesting that the Trump administration immediately clarify an executive order pausing funding under former President Joe Biden’s initiative to build new roads, fix bridges and launch other infrastructure projects.

Republican President Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 executive order suspended disbursements under the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Those were two of the Biden administration’s signature achievements.

More than 150 House Democrats wrote a letter Tuesday asking the Trump administration to specify exactly which funds it was targeting.

The letter was led by Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, the former House majority leader. Maryland Democratic Reps. Sarah Elfreth, Johnny Olszewski Jr., Glenn Ivey, Jamie Raskin and April McClain Delaney were also among those signing.
