As President Trump’s first address to Congress during his second term unfolded, one Maryland political leader took to social media to share his thoughts.
Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter) throughout the evening, Rep. Johnny Olszewski expressed his concerns and highlighted policy disagreements with the administration.
“I think the speaker fight is a good proxy for the challenges of this Congress,” said new Rep. Johnny Olszewski (D-2nd), citing the closely divided House several hours before the vote.
Today, New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) issued a statement following the swearing in ceremony of all 110 New Dem Members in the 119th Congress – including 25 freshman Members:
“I am thrilled to congratulate and welcome the 25 new Members joining Congress and our New Dem Coalition today. This Freshman class represents one of the largest in New Dems history – each unique and exceptional in their own right. I have no doubt they will strengthen New Dems with their knowledge and experience and deliver for their constituents.
Johnny Olszewski, who resigned as the Baltimore County executive, was sworn into Congress on Friday, Jan. 3, on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Olszewski replaces the retired Dutch Ruppersberger as the representative of Maryland's second congressional district, which includes parts of Carroll and Baltimore counties, and a small portion of Baltimore City.
