Olszewski Announces Congressional Subcommittee Assignments

January 24, 2025

Rep. Olszewski will serve on the House Small Business and Foreign Affairs Committees

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Johnny Olszewski today announced his appointments to multiple subcommittees on the House Foreign Affairs and Small Business Committees for the 119th Congress:

  • Small Business: Subcommittee on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Workforce Development
  • Small Business: Subcommittee on Rural Development, Energy, and Supply Chains
  • Foreign Affairs: Africa Subcommittee
  • Foreign Affairs: East Asia and Pacific

“My subcommittee assignments align with the unique needs of Maryland’s Second District and will provide incredible opportunities to deliver on the global issues my constituents care about,” Congressman Olszewski said. “I am excited to get started on the in-depth policy work that will help support our farmers in Carroll County, strengthen the start-up ecosystem in Baltimore City and support the thriving industries across Baltimore County. This is work that will directly help create economic opportunity for all my constituents.”

As Baltimore County Executive, Congressman Olszewski prioritized workforce development, creating a widely recognized program to connect residents in historically underserved communities with high-demand nursing positions. He also doubled the county’s minority-and-women owned business participation goals to support entrepreneurs.

“Congressman Olszewski’s commitment to people first leadership has been evident throughout his career, from teaching civics in Baltimore County Public Schools to championing small businesses as County Executive,” said Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, Ranking Member of the Small Business Committee. “His track record of advocating Nydia for local entrepreneurs makes him a valuable addition to the Small Business Committee, and I look forward to working with him to expand opportunities for small firms across the country.

In addition, Congressman Olszewski’s experience crafting and implementing budgets and managing tens of thousands of employees at the local level will support the oversight of the country’s many diplomatic efforts, public health initiatives and foreign aid programs under the jurisdiction of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

“From working to prevent future pandemics to tackling Chinese aggression, my work on the Foreign Affairs Committee will also have a direct impact on my constituents' lives and livelihoods here at home,” Congressman Olszewski said.

“I warmly welcome Representative Olszewski to the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” said Congressman Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the committee. “His membership on both the Africa and East Asia and the Pacific subcommittees will be especially valued, and I look forward to his partnership as we work to address the world’s most pressing challenges, safeguard our national security, and increase U.S. competitiveness on the world stage.”
