Olszewski Applauds Appointment of Klausmeier as New Baltimore County Executive
County council names State Senator Katherine Klausmeier as successor
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Johnny Olszewski, Jr. today applauded the Baltimore County Council’s stated intention to appoint Maryland State Senator Katherine Klausmeier to succeed him as Baltimore County Executive. Klausmeier is expected to be sworn in this afternoon following an official vote by the council and will serve the remainder of Congressman Olszewski’s term through 2026.
Congressman Olszewski, who served as County Executive for six years, resigned from the position effective January 3 after his election to represent Maryland’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“I thank the council for its thoughtful and transparent deliberations,” Congressman Olszewski said. “Senator Klausmeier is not only a lifelong friend, she is a dedicated and hard-working public servant – a leader who I know is more than up to the task ahead. I also know that she inherits an outstanding team that will ensure she hits the ground running. I look forward to partnering with her and all of our elected officials at the state and local level in my new role.”
Congressman Olszewski and Senator Klausmeier, currently the most tenured member of the Maryland Senate, served together in the Maryland General Assembly from 2006 until 2015.
