Olszewski Issues Statement on Election Certification

January 6, 2025

Electoral College votes were counted in joint session of Congress

(Washington, DC.) – Congressman Johnny Olszewski, Jr. today issued the following statement on the certification of the 2024 presidential election and the historic significance of the day:

“As a county executive, I worked hand-in-hand with local election professionals. They are patriotic heroes on the frontlines of American democracy. They deserve our respect and gratitude. Now as a United States Congressman, I honor and affirm their hard work by participating in today’s vote count and election certification.
The peaceful transfer of power is at the very foundation of our country’s democracy — and it is my hope that today’s election certification is a step toward a productive and collaborative Congressional session.

Today, we also remember the bravery of our Capitol Police and all law enforcement personnel who defended our nation from violent efforts to overthrow the 2020 election on January 6, 2021, and pray for all those who were injured and lost their lives. We recommit ourselves to doing all we can to protect our system of government – rooted in the separation of three equal branches – from all those who seek to destroy it.”
