Olszewski Issues Statement on Mass Confusion Surrounding Trump Administration’s Federal Funding Freeze

January 29, 2025
(Washington, DC) — Congressman Johnny Olszewski today issued the following statement on the unclear status of President Trump’s unprecedented pause on federal funding for critical community programs:
“The reckless and clearly unlawful acts by the President over the past 24 hours have only caused more chaos and fear for countless Americans. They give the impression that this White House is willing to flaunt the law and to do so in a way that can directly harm the American people.
Through contradicting edicts and cancellations of edicts, the Trump Administration is jeopardizing access to desperately-needed services supporting veterans, seniors, children and the homeless – as well as the jobs created by these services.
We must call out these manufactured crises for what they are: efforts to distract us from the fact that Republican leaders have taken absolutely zero actions to lower costs for everyday Americans. I call on my colleagues in Congress to denounce these illegal actions and commit to working together on common sense legislation to address the real needs of the American people.”
