Olszewski Issues Statement on Reported Israel-Hamas Agreement

October 9, 2025

Olszewski is member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee

(Washington, DC) – Maryland Congressman Johnny Olszewski, a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement on a reported agreement between Hamas and Israel:
“As we enter the third year of the devastating war in Gaza, reports of a potential agreement that could finally lead to peace and stability in the region are extremely encouraging.  I commend the Administration for the diplomatic efforts that have led to this hopeful development.
While difficult challenges remain to be addressed  – including the disarmament of Hamas and establishment of a stable governance structure for  Gaza –  I urge all parties to implement the first phase of this agreement and approach the next round of negotiations with urgency and resolve.
The President’s proposal noted that “full aid” will be sent to the “Gaza Strip upon acceptance of this agreement.” Complete restoration of humanitarian aid must remain separate from the broader terms of the peace plan and be immediately scaled to address the dire conditions and suffering of innocent Palestinians.
I remain cautiously optimistic that this moment can serve as a turning point — one that brings all sides closer to sustainable peace and a viable path to a two-state solution.”
