Olszewski Supports Bipartisan Funding Bill Delivering $4.17 Million for Second District Infrastructure Projects
(Washington, DC) — Congressman Johnny Olszewski today voted in support of a bipartisan $1.2 trillion federal funding bill that includes $4.17 million in targeted investments for projects across Maryland’s Second Congressional District.
The three-bill appropriations “minibus” covers the federal Departments of Labor; Health and Human Services; Education; Defense; Transportation; and Housing and Urban Development. The legislation passed the House in a 341-88 vote and now advances to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
The minibus continues Democrats’ rejection of extreme funding cuts proposed by the Trump Administration and makes critical investments in public health, affordable housing and child care, transportation infrastructure, and workforce development. As a vocal opponent of unilateral cuts and rescissions pursued by the Administration last year, Congressman Olszewski emphasized provisions that reassert Congress’ constitutional power of the purse. The bill includes detailed funding tables codifying precise dollar amounts for specific programs and establishes staffing requirements at key federal agencies.
“As families across Maryland work hard to make ends meet, we must ensure their tax dollars are used strategically, responsibly, and as Congress intended,” said Congressman Olszewski. “I am proud to support investments that strengthen public safety, modernize aging infrastructure, and help close workforce shortages in the skilled trades. At the same time, this legislation includes strong safeguards to prevent the reckless abuses of taxpayer dollars we have seen over the past year.”
Congressman Olszewski successfully secured funding for the following local priorities:
- $850,000 to improve the runway at Martin State Airport in Middle River
- $2 million to improve the interchange at I-795 and Dolfield Boulevard in Owings Mills
- $250,000 to replace lampposts along the Reisterstown Main Street corridor
- $850,000 to support the construction of a new Applied Technology and Trades Center at Carroll Community College
Nationally, the legislation provides significant investments in medical research, child care and Head Start programs, and initiatives to address the growing number of unhoused Americans. The bill increases funding for the Federal Aviation Administration to hire additional air traffic controllers and modernize air traffic control towers, and fully funds a 3.8 percent pay raise for members of the U.S. military.
