Olszewski Supports Legislation to Check Influence of Elon Musk

February 10, 2025
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Congressman Johnny Olszewski today announced his support for legislation to help check the legally dubious infiltration of the federal government being led by Elon Musk at the behest of President Trump. Olszewski, whose Maryland district is home to more than 22,000 federal workers, has emerged as a leading voice in defense of our dedicated civil servants – and the vital government services they provide – against the Executive Branch’s unprecedented assault.
Olszewski has added his name as a cosponsor of legislation that directly responds to President Trump granting the unelected Musk and his associates in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to taxpayers’ data stored by the Treasury Department. The bills include the:
  • Taxpayer Data Protection Act, which prevents people with conflicts of interest or insufficient security clearances from accessing the highly-sensitive Treasury Department payment system, which is responsible for issuing Social Security and Medicare benefits and,
  • The Consistent Legal Expectations and Access to Records (CLEAR) Act, which would clarify that DOGE must comply with transparency laws like the Freedom of Information Act.
“Over the past weeks, the President, his Administration, and Elon Musk have intentionally tested the limits of executive power and the rule of law,” Congressman Olszewski said. “In the process, they have done harm to our civil servants as well as the families, veterans, seniors and children who rely on government services. These bills will help protect the private data of American citizens – ensuring that secrecy and corruption do not become our new normal.”
