Olszewski Takes Oath of Office for 119th Congress
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Johnny Olszewski, Jr. today was sworn into the 119th session of the U.S. House of Representatives, taking the oath of office for his first two-year term representing Maryland’s Second District, which includes the majority of Baltimore and Carroll Counties as well as portions of Baltimore City.
Prior to taking office, Olszewski was elected by his Democratic peers to serve as the Freshman Representative of the Steering and Policy Committee, which helps shape legislative priorities and ensures the caucus’ diverse voices are acted upon.
“As a lifelong Marylander, it is the honor of a lifetime to take the oath of office on behalf of the citizens of the Second District,” Congressman Olszewski said. “I look forward to serving and representing them with transparency, effectiveness and accountability. I look forward to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass meaningful, common sense legislation that makes life better for all Americans.”
Joined by his family and close friends, Olszewski officially opened his Capitol Hill office, located in the historic Longworth House Office Building, and launched his official Congressional website and social media platforms. A district office in Towson, Maryland, will open in the coming weeks, serving as home base for an experienced team of caseworkers to serve constituents locally.
A former public school teacher and Baltimore County native, Congressman Olszewski previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates as well as having been elected to two terms as Baltimore County Executive, where he led the state’s third-largest jurisdiction and managed a $5 billion government enterprise. He is a first-generation college graduate, holding a bachelor’s degree from Goucher College, a master’s degree from George Washington University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Olszewski joins a dynamic Maryland delegation that includes three new members of the House of Representatives as well as a new U.S. Senator.
