Olszewski Votes Against Cuts to Foreign Aid, Public Broadcasting
July 18, 2025
Rescissions codify Trump Administration’s efforts to repeal Congressionally-appropriated funding
(Washington, DC) – Maryland Congressman Johnny Olszewski issued the following statement after voting against a $9 billion rescissions package that repeals funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid:
“Tonight, House Republicans voted to abdicate the power of the purse to President Trump, canceling critical funding that was approved by a bipartisan Congress just a few months ago.
These cuts do not make the government more efficient or lower costs for American families. Instead, President Trump and extreme conservatives are making Americans weaker by shortchanging diplomatic programs that affirm our global leadership. They are even defunding public educational TV, including programs like Sesame Street, as well as life-saving emergency alerts provided by public broadcasting.
I will continue to do everything I can to lower the cost of living for our working class families.”
