Olszewski Votes ‘No’ on Continuing Resolution

March 12, 2025

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Johnny Olszewski today issued the following statement regarding the Continuing Resolution considered on the House floor this evening:

“Funding the government is the most basic responsibility of Congress, yet this is the third temporary Continuing Resolution for the 2025 fiscal year with no full-year Appropriations plan in sight. These band aid budgets are bad for everyone – for our troops, our partners in industry and especially the American taxpayers. They prevent us from investing strategically and cutting what we no longer need.

By failing to pass our appropriations bills, Congress is giving President Trump and Elon Musk a blank check to continue funding – and defunding – their own whims. This CR also irresponsibly cuts critical priorities including veterans’ healthcare, housing programs, cancer research, infrastructure projects and more.

My colleagues offered a reasonable alternative in the form of a clean, short-term bill that would have prevented a government shutdown while allowing Congress to do its job and finally negotiate bipartisan funding bills. Instead, Democrats were shut out of the process.

I voted against this bill and will continue to support common sense efforts to responsibly fund the government and its vital programs and services.”
